Photomosaic is a technique to produce large images by arranging many small images like tiles. We implemented a photomosaic algorithm to CAT, an image browser which provides a zooming operation. CAT displays representative images while zooming out, and individual images while zooming in. W developed a new algorithm for generating photomosaic-like images by adjusting colors of images arranged based on their taken time, instead of using general photomosaic algorithms, because we often browse pictures in order of a taken time. This paper discusses what kind of photographs are suitable for photomosaic, based on our user evaluations of photomosaic image generation results.
